Don was born and raised in Vancouver and attended Dr. R.E. McKechnie Elementary & Magee Secondary School as well as the University of British Columbia.

Don is married with a son and is an avid windsurfer, skier, prone paddleboarder and OC1 paddler. Don taught skiing professionally in Crans-Montana Switzerland and has traveled the world with his windsurfing from Africa, West Indies, Hawaiian Islands, Europe and the Haida Gwaii's.
